Brut Productions

Some listings for the movie had mentioned Brut Productions along with Warner Brothers. In Sept of 2018, I looked around the net for more info and then, on a whim, wrote to Faberge’, the parent company of Brut Productions. (Montpelier, France is listed by their name in some credits at the time.)

I got a response on a Friday night after 5 pm! The woman who responded was interested in this, has seen the movie a few times and likes it. She thinks the CEO will be interested in this too. (Nothing has since become of this. The new owners of Faberge’ bought the brand in 2009 so they are pretty distant from whoever ran it back then.)

What I found on the net: ‘Faberge forms Brut Productions’ was announced in Billboard on 10/2/71. ‘They will make records, tapes, video cassettes, feature films, documentaries, animated features and television films.’ Robert Halmi was Exec VP of Production.

Turner Entertainment bought them in 1982 and then Warner Brothers bought their library.

In 1974 though WB and Brut Productions released TWM (and the movie Welcome To Arrow Beach). This would be the short run it had in the US.

Videocassettes made by WB (between certain dates but I don’t know what those dates would be) might have Brut Productions on there too. My local library seems to have a copy (a 35 mm print???) so I want to check it out and see if there’s anything ID-ing Brut on the credits screen. I’m not expecting the version to be any different than any other theatrical version.

Does anyone have a Warner Brothers videocassette of the film that mentions Brut Productions on the cover? If so, is there also anything on the videotape about them? Thanks.

FWIW The original negatives for the film were discovered to be lost sometime after the Cinefantastique issue comes out, so Oct of 1977. Perhaps the negatives went to Brut? (or WB?) That all happened before that.

The Variety review of 12/31/72 lists Brut as the co-producer along with British Lion.
